Silent in Death
Death lies upon her, like an untimely frost
Upon the sweetest flower of all the field. It becomes our painful duty to record the death of Mrs. Gertie E. Meek, wife of R. F. Meek and the daughter of Hon. Thomas Christy of Bonaparte, which took place at the home of her parents Sunday morning last at 5:30 o'clock, of consumption. The deceased was born in this county Nov. 26, 1854, and was therefore nearly 31 years of age. She grew to womanhood in Bonaparte and on the 28th day of September 1875, was married to R. F. Meek, son of Robert Meek. She leaves three little boys, one little babe having died about two years ago, who together with her husband are left to mourn her irreparable loss. No more shall the loving arms of an affectionate mother be extended to them in their little trials of childhood; the last kiss of affection has been implanted upon their brows. No more shall the wife's comforting words be extended to the husband. Hushed in the silent tomb, she awaits their coming to join her in the realms beyond. Intelligent, refined, noble, no lady ever lived in Bonaparte, or elsewhere, who both as a girl and as a woman was by all classes; more respected and beloved than Mrs. Meek, and her untimely death seemed to sadden every heart. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Jas. Welch, assisted by Revs. Henneigh and Barber. The attendance at the funeral, which by her request was held at her father's residence, was very large, her numerous friends and relatives thus attesting their sympathy.
