Sarah Jane Leach daughter of Robert and Mary A. Meek was born in Bonaparte, Iowa, Nov. 23 1840, where she grew to womanhood and was married to Joseph F. Leach, Feb 11, 1858. To them were born 8 children, 5 sons and 3 daughters, 2 sons and one daughter died in infancy, leaving 3 sons and 2 daughters with her companion to mourn their loss. Van Buren county Iowa has been her home all her life with the exception of 18 months she lived near St. Louis, Mo. She united with the Babitst (sic) church in the fall of 1867 under the pastorate of elder Sulton and remained a member of that church until her death which occurred Sept. 23, 1892 at Milton Iowa. Funeral survices (sic) were held at the residence Saturday and was attended by a large concourse of relatives and friends. Rev. Filmer made a short funeral address appropriate to the occasion. The remains were laid to rest in the new cemetery. Deceased was a christian woman, a devoted wife, kind and affectionate mother, and much loved and admired by all who knew her.
