Mary McGrath in Fatal Accident At Park Sunday
Mary Elizabeth McGrath, 16, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James W. McGrath of Keosauqua was killed instantly Sunday about 4 p.m. when the 1963 Ford Station Wagon belongilng to her father left the road about one mile west on the Lacey Keosauqua State Park Road and struck a tree.
Her brother Mark, 13, and Phyllis Furumoto, 15, passengers in the car were hospitalized. Phyllis, the daugthter of Dr. and Mrs. Kiyoshi Furumoto received a broken leg, cuts and bruises and Mark had cuts and bruises. Both suffered from shock.
The station wagon was demolished, according to Sheriff Orville Lee.
Mary was born at Burlngton, Nov. 3, 1947 she had always lived at Keosauqua. She finished her sophomore year in the Van Buren Communuity school in May. She was active in music and drama.
She was one of the organists at the Mehhodist church. The church is establishing a memorial fund for her. Area residents may pick up the Memorial envelope from Rev. E. S Tschetter at the church.
Survivors are her parents, three brothers and a sister: James in Hawaii with the army, Stephen, Mark and Martha at home; also her grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Earl McGrath of Eagle Grove and Mrs. William Frudeger of Danville.
Funevai services were held Wednesday, June l at 2 p.m. at the Keosauqua Methodist Church with the pastor, Rev, E. S. Tschetter in charge. Burial was in Fellows Cemetery.
