With sorrow I communicate to you an account of the death of Mr. James A. Brown of Bentonsport.
Mr. Brown was a native of Pennsylvania, but having passed nearly half his life in Bentonsport, he was one of the oldest citizens of the county, and one of the first settlers of the town in which he lived--- After a protracted illness of several months, at his home, surrounded by his numerous family, and anxious friends, he quietly, and trustingly resigned himself into the hands of Him whom he had learned to trust, and at a quarter past four on the afternoon of Tuesday, Nov. 21st passed from time to his home and reward above.
His memory dwells in the hearts of those who knew him, and none mourn his loss more than those who were best acquainted with him.
I have often heard it remarked of him "that he is a good man for the town" and he will truly be missed as one always interested in whatever he tho't was for the interest of the place, for with an open hand he made use of the means God had given him for the good of others. The town and community in general will feel his loss: the church in which he was an active elder will miss him, and sadly will he be missed by the family-whose circle was hitherto unbroken-where he has justly earned the title of a good husband and father. The friends of himself and family deeply sympathize with them in what is their loss but we believe his gain. His funeral will take place on Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock.
There follows a seven stanza poem [not included].
