Deaths
Madden--At his home residence near Mt. Sterling, Io., July 17, 1887, Thomas Madden, aged 59 years.
Deceased was born in Ireland in 1828 and with his parents came to this country when he was but two years of age. For a number of years he lived in Lee county. He left that county in 1849, going to California where he interested himself in gold mining, remaining there three or four years.
Upon his return to Iowa he located near Mt. Sterling, and purchased quite an amount of land. He was an extensive and successful farmer, a good man and excellent citizen.
In 1854 he married Miss Hannah Brewster, the union being blessed with eight children, all of whom survive the deceased husband and father.
He became a member of the Christian church in 1877.
The remains were interred in the cemetery at Center Chapel, the furesal (sic) taking place from the house under the direction of Rev. McCrary, Sunday afternoon at 6 o'clock.
