David E. Watkins

David Evans Watkins, son of John and Ann Evans Watkins, sixth in a family of nine children, was born May 16, 1873, at Tallybont in Breconshire county, Wales, and passed away at the home of his nephew Roy Watkins, near Keosauqua at 10:30 in the evening of March 5, 1943, aged 69 years, 9 months and 19 days.

He, with his parents, brothers and sisters, lived in Wales until he reached the age of eight years, at which time they emigrated to America and came to Keosauqua in June, 1881.

David lived with his parents until the death of his mother in May, 1907, after which he lived with his brother, John, and sister, Mary, in the state of Kansas. He later returned to Mt. Sterling community and for some time worked with race horses and on farms in Clark County, Mo.

Following this he was employed for several years at the Van Buren county farm until the fall of 1931 at which time he came to live with his nephew Roy Watkins, of near Keosauqua, and has lived there until the time of his death.

Uncle Dave, as we all knew him, was of a modest and retiring disposition. He was industrious and dependable and will be missed long by those who knew him.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at Center Chapel, the pastor, Rev. Treverton Warren, officiaing. Interment in the chapel cemetery.
