George W. Smith died at 12:45 Tuesday morning at the age of 87 years. He was the oldest child of Silas W. and Sarah Smith and was born at Westminister, Mass., Aug., 5th, 1827.

He moved to this country in 1838 at what was then known as the Wisconsin territory and settled on a farm in Salubria about a mile below town. H lived alone on his little farm until about ten years ago when he came to town.

He was interested in reading the events of the day until five weeks ago when he had a congestive chill and has been gradually failing since.

He was the oldest of six children all of whom have preceded him in death.

The funeral will be held at the late home this Thursday at 2:00 o’clock.
