Joseph Everett Johnson 1873-1930

JOHNSON, SIMMONS, VAN CLEAVE

Joseph Everett Johnson, son of Joseph A. and Kate [Van Cleave] Johnson, was born near Bonaparte, Iowa, August 2, 1873, and died in Bonaparte, June 4th, 1930, aged 56 years, 10 months and 2 days.

Bereft of his father at an early age, Everett through his industry and faithfulness soon became the mainstay of the home and through all the years has been his mother's constant companion; living on the farm until fourteen years ago and since that time in Bonaparte. His death leaves a vacancy in his mother's life which at her age she cannot hope to overcome, only to learn to endure.

Here in the community where Everett spent his whole life it is needless to speak words of eulogy. We have the record of his life which is enough. This being so it is hard to understand why he should have been afflicted with so strange and fatal a malady, one against which the sympathy, hopes and toil of friends and family who would have kept him with us, was of no avail. Truly, the ways of life are past understanding.

Of Everett's immediate family his father and one brother have gone before. There remain to mourn, his mother, Mrs. Kate Johnson, one brother, Leslie Johnson, and two sisters, Mrs. Della Simmons and Miss Alice Johnson. Besides these are numerous other relatives and countless friends.

Funeral services were held at the late home at three o'clock on Thursday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Melvin Pearce. Interment in Bonaparte Cemetery.

[I would like to hear from anyone with a connection to this family. - Rich]
