AGED LADY OF COUNTY DIED IN MT. STERLING

Talitha J. Davis, eldest daughter of Stephen G. and Lydia Weekly, was born in Muskingum County, Ohio, May 18, 1835, and passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Harry Davis, near Mt. Sterling, Sunday, June 27, 1920, at 4:30 p.m., after only a few hours illness, aged 85 years, 1 month and 9 days. Deceased came with her parents to Van Buren County, Iowa, when five years of age, and practically all her girlhood life was lived on a large farm near the Iowa line in Grant township, Clark County, Mo., a few miles southwest of Farmington. She was united in marriage to Isaac P. Davis, of Scotland County, Mo., March 13, 1856, who preceded her in death October 10, 1912. To this union were born eight children, five of whom survive to mourn their loss of a kind and devoted mother, namely: Mrs. Luthena Callighan, Stephen G., Loran, Mrs. Jennie Davis, all of near Mt. Sterling, Iowa, and Frances M. of Kirksville, Mo. All were at her bedside when the end came. Also ten grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, three sisters, Mrs. Athelia Tackaberry of Cantril, Mrs. Emily House of Kahoka, Mo., and Mrs. Marrietta King of Guthrie, Oklahoma., besides many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held from the home Tuesday afternoon, June 29 at 2 p.m. conducted by Rev. L.V. Brown of Mt. Sterling. Brs. E.B. Mosier, Mrs. J.H. Dill and Rev. Brown of Mt. Sterling rendered several beautiful songs. The remains were laid to rest in the Jordan cemetery beside her husband and three children gone before.
