SAMUEL H. SCOTT
Samuel Hiram Scott was born April 5th 1819, in Columbiana county, Ohio, and died at his home in Vernon, Io., September 27th, 1909. He learned the millwright and miller trade in early boyhood. He was married to Miss Matilda Murry, December 18th 1830, in Columbiana county, Ohio. Eleven children, five boys and six girls, were born to them, all of whom are living. The three oldest were born in Ohio, the other eight in Van Buren county, Iowa. He moved with his family to Iowa the spring of 1845, stopping at Franklin, Lee county, remaining there one year, then moving to south Bentonsport (now Vernon), the spring of 1846, and resumed work at his trade in the flouring mill then owned by George C. Allender and brothers, remaining there until the spring of 1865 when he moved to a farm ,on Vernon Prairie, remaining there u ntil the spring of 1869, when he moved to a farm north of Bentonsport, remaining there until the fail of 1870, when he moved to Knoxville, Marion Co., Iowa. The spring of 1873 be returned to Bentonsport, remaining there until the fall of 1876, when he moved to Selma. The spring of 1877 he moved back to Vernon where he ever afterwards lived. There are left to morn his death, tile wife, 11 children, 39 grand children, 57 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at the Vernon M. E. church Tuesday, September 28th by Rev, H. C. Druse, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Bentonsport cemetry [sic]. All of the eleven children were present.
