MICHAEL SIMMONS CALLED TO LAST REST
One of Farmington's Good Old Men Dies from Attack of Apolexy Monday.

Death came to the relief of Michael Simmons, Sr., at his home here, Monday at eleven o'clock. His health had been failing for sometime but he was able to drive and walk out until Friday. On Thursday he attended a family reunion at the home of his son Frank, where sixty relatives were assembled.

Friday night Mr. Simmons was stricken with apoplexy and lingered through three nights and two days, without regaining consciousness.

Michael Simmons was a fine type of pioneer manhood. He was always sincere and wished his fellow men happiness and prosperity. Jealousy, hatred and evil tongue were entirely foreign to his nature. He wished no man ill. He lived a quiet life and greeted every acquaintance as a friend.

Michael Simmons was born at Fletcher, Miami County, Ohio, July 16, 1832. He was married to Miss Mary Ellen Dorsey May 19, 1853, at Sydney, Ohio, and in 1857 they moved to Iowa, locating in Vernon prairie. Thirteen children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Simmons, of whom eleven survive. They celebrated their golden wedding May 19, 1903. Mrs. Simmons passed away a little over a year ago.

The living children are Clyde of Wichita, Kans.; Miss Addie of Oklahoma City; Mrs. J. Lindsey [sic]of Lodi, Neb., Mrs. Jacob Muntz, Mrs. Leo Edwards, Michael, Jr., of Vernon prairie and W.F. of Farmington, all of whom were present at the funeral, and John of Hyer, New Mexico; Alonzo of Oklahoma City, and Mrs. Noah Murphy of Mullhall, Okla.

A short funeral service will be held at the home at 11:30 Wednesday, after which the remains will be taken to Story Chapel, where services will be conducted.

(Died Aug. 31, 1908 at age 76)

[I would like to hear from anyone with connection to this family. - Rich]
