Joseph A. Johnson died at his home in Farmington Township, November 14, 1886, aged 53 years, 10 months and 26 days. Deceased was born in Fountain County Indiana, December 18, 1832. He came with his parents to Iowa and settled in Van Buren County in 1837, in which County he has always lived, with the exception of two years he spent in California. He was married to Mrs. Kate Van Cleave, May 18, 1871, who with five children, three boys and two girls, are left to mourn the loss of a kind husband and an affectionate father. He also leaves three brothers and three sisters. His remains were laid to rest in the Bonaparte Cemetery, Monday afternoon. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Jones, pastor of the Presbyterian Church of Bonaparte. That he had the respect of the community in which he lived was fully shown by the large crowd of friends and neighbors that followed his remains to their last resting place.
