RUBY E. KNECHT

Ruby Esther Knecht, daughter of Irvin and Anna Belle Manbeck Nedrow, was born November 27, 1917, on the Nedrow family farm northeast of Douds, and departed this life Saturday, April 3, 1976, at Jefferson County Hospital in Fairfield at the age of 58.

She graduated from Douds High School in 1936 and on February 25, 1939, was married to Kenneth Knecht. They established their home near the Nedrow homestead, and spent their married life on the same farm, also being engaged in the trucking business.

Remaining to cherish her memory are her widower, three daughters, Mrs. Dixie Gates of Douds, Mrs. Donna Taube of Jackson, Michigan, and Mrs. Doris Kisling of Birmingham; sons-in-law Duane Gates, Daniel Taube, and Charles Kisling; ten grandchildren; and a brother, Lehr Nedrow of Douds; nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends. Her parents and a sister, Ruth Smith preceded her in death.

Ruby was an active member of the Zion Bible Church, having served in numerous church offices.

She will be remembered as a a [sic] devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and as one who did her best to serve her Lord in her daily life, even throughout her long and trying illness.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 6, 1976, at 2 p.m. at the Zion Bible Church near Douds with the Rev. Walter Shuka, pastor, officiating. Houston Sears was the soloist, and Phyllis Caves the pianist. Pall bearers were Ernest Bates, Frank Caves, Ralph Caves, Elza Loeffler, Kenneth Wilson, and Lawrence Benge. Interment was in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery. A memorial was established for the Cancer Fund or [sic] her church. Srrangements were in charge of Pedrick Funeral Home, Douds.

A photocopy of this obit is located in Obit Book 2 (1975-1980) found in the Van Buren County, IA Genealogical Society's collection at the Keosauqua Public Library in July 1999. Handwritten on the obit is "Record-Republican 08 April 1976."

I am NOT related to Mrs. Ruby Esther Nedrow Knecht and am posting this obit for those who may find her in their family history.
