MARTIN, SPELLMAN, MOORE

George Walter Martin, son of Frank and Mary Ann Martin, was born in Harrisburg township, Van Buren county, Iowa, July 31, 1873; and passed away at his home in Bonaparte July 14, 1946, at the age of 72 years, 11 months and 13 days.

In 1906 he was united in marriage with Mary Francis Spellman who died in 1914, leaving a small son, Mervin.

On August 7, 1929, he was married to Mrs. Willa Moore and to this union was born one daughter, Josephine.

He enlisted in the United States army and served his country during the Spanish American war, serving in the Philippines, also for 18 months in China. He was discharged March 22, 1905.
He also faithfully served his home town, Bonaparte, for two terms as mayor.

His health has been failing for the past four years and during the past year he has been a patient sufferer.

He leaves to mourn his departure, his wife; one son, Mervin; one daughter, Josephine Mardo; a step-son, Joe Moore; and one grandson, David Martin; also two brothers, Charles and Alex. A brother, William died in 1932. He will be missed by his many friends.

A military funeral was held at the late home in Bonaparte on Wednesday afternoon conducted by Sargeant-Osweiler post American Legion and Chaplain R. C. Murdock. Interment in Bonaparte Cemetery.

"His daughter (my mom), Josephine's middle name is Mardo. It is not her last name. At the time of my grandfather's death, her last name was Martin."
