Lamartine Worth Vickers, son of George and Maria Vickers was born near Ottumwa, Iowa, March 20, 1853, and died in Bonaparte July 5, 1922, at the age of 69 years, 3 months and 15 days. His parents moved to Bonaparte when he was but six weeks old. He received his education and grew to manhood here. On July 5, 1880, he was married to Miss Virginia Anderson after which he made his home for a time at Warren, Iowa. To them was born one child, Pearl. From Warren he moved to Princeton, Mo. and from there to Humboldt, Neb.
On June 4, 1891 he was married to Miss Sarah Feasel of Humboldt. To them were born four boys and one girl. In 1895 he moved to the neighborhood of Brady Island, Neb. Remaining there until 1902 when he moved to Cozad, Neb. Here he made him home until failing health aroused in him a desire to lay down his burden in his boyhood home. He came to Bonaparte in 1917 and thereafter made his home with his sister and brother. His strength gradually failed until his life went out at 4:15 July 5th.
He united with the Baptist church of Bonaparte at the age of fourteen and took an active part in the life of the church while here. Later his membership was taken to the west where he was a member at the time of his death.
His children all of whom survive him are Mrs. Pearl Newcomb of Mason City, Iowa; George T., Stewart R., and Max L., of Cozad, Neb., Cecil O., of Oconto, Neb.; and Mrs. Adla E. Mercer of Cozad. He leaves two sisters, Miss Margaret Vickers of Bonaparte and Mrs. Florence Scramlin of Eliot, North Dakota and two brothers, M. F. and O. G. both of Bonaparte; also many other relatives including eight grandchildren.
He was a good father and taught his children to attend church and respect and revere God and his work. He had many friends wherever he lived.
Funeral services were held at the Baptist church Saturday afternoon, Rev. Coppoc officiating and interment in the Bonaparte cemetery.
