Daniel W. Riggle, eldest son of Henry and Kathrine Riggle was born in Franklin Co., Penn., April 25, 1845. He came to iowa at an early date and on August 24, 1870, was united in marriage to Miss Belle R. Hennigh at the Linn Grove Parsonage in Linn Co., Ia. To this union were born four children, Kate Belle White and Nellie Carson Talbott of Des Moines, Iowa; Mary Leila, deceased; and Luther H. of Sioux City.

Mr. Riggle served his country in the Civil War in Company B., 139th Indiana Volunteer Infantry, and was always deeply interested in anything pertaining to the G.A.R.

He united with the Presbyterian church in 1870 and maintained his relationship with that church to the end.

He was always strong and vigorous until the morning of July 25, when he was stricken with paralysis from which he died at 5:15 Wednesday afternoon, July 28 at the age of 75 years, 3 months and 3 days. Had he lived twenty-seven days longer, he and his beloved companion could have celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary.

He leaves beside his immediate family, five brothers, one sister and eight grandchildren. The whole community joins with the bereaved family in mourning for the departed.

Funeral services were held at the house Friday afternoon at three o'clock, in charge of Rev. J.S. Coppoc. The burial was at the Bonaparte Cemetery in charge of the G.Ar.R., Rev. Mr. Perkins of Keosauqua and Rev. S.D. McCracken taking part.
