R. M. Dickson.

R. M. Dickson died Saturday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Pete Folker, near Acasto, Mo. Funeral services were held at the M. E. church in Vernon Monday afternoon, Rev. L. T. Hughes officiating.
Mr. Dickson is a well known Van Buren county pioneer who was for many years engaged in the pottery business at Vernon. Obituary sketch next week.

R. M. Dickson.

Robert Moore Dickson was born March 13th, 1826 in York Co., Pa., and died March 21, 1914, aged 88 years and 8 days. Moved with his parents at the age of four years to Muskingum Co., Ohio, where he grew to manhood.
He came west to Winchester, Ill., and remained one year, when he came to Vernon, which has since been his home.
He was united in marriage to Malinda J. Hanback on April 4, 1852. To this marriage there were born four sons and three daughters, the wife and three eldest sons having preceded him to the beyond. There are left of his family four children, Mrs. Mary Moore of Pierce City, Mo.; C. T. Dickson of Henry township; Mrs. anna Folker of Mt. Sterling and Mrs. Blanche Fulton of Richmond, Va.
For over fifty years he was an elder in the Presbyterian Church. His was a simple faith of a little child. He has known prosperity and adversity, storm and stress, joy and sorrow, but what ever came to him never altered or shook his faith or wrung from him one word of complaint. Did he sit at the table spread for a feast, he enjoyed it to the full. Did he sit at the lonely meal prepared by his own hands, he bowed his head in thanks to his maker and it was still a feast. No needy ever appealed to him for help that he did not want to share with them his store, whether it was little or much.
He was a devoted husband, a kind father, generous to a fault. His life-long daily prayer had been for a peaceful hour in which to die without suffering. That prayer was answered, for when the end came, it was with the quickness of the blowing out of a candle.
Funeral services at Vernon March 23, conducted by Rev. L. T. Hughes of Bonaparte. xxx
