Catherine Mohler was born near Baltimore, Md., June 9, 1821. She moved to Ohio when quite young and was married there on Dec. 18, 1837, to Jacob Wolf, they remaining in Ohio fourteen years. Ten children bless their union, five sons and five daughters, of whom one son and one daughter departed this life many years ago. In 1851 they came to Iowa, settling on Vernon Prairie, Van Buren county, upon a farm which the husband entered from the U.S. government. There first abode here was a rude log cabin upon the place known in the years since as the "Old Home." In this they lived contentedly, struggling with that zeal necessary in the lives of pioneers in a new country, until by hard labor and economy they had earned a more imposing home which still remains upon the old home farm. In 1884 they retired from active farm life, moving to Bonaparte were the subject of this sketch passed the remainder of her days, falling into that the eternal sleep called " eath," Friday afternoon, October 19, 1900. Mother Wolf became a member of the Lutheran church in early childhood and after coming to Iowa united with the Presbyterian church, of which organization she remained a faithful member to the end of her days. Her surviving sons and daughters all reside in this immediate neighborhood, with the exception of one son, who lives at Ferndale, California. Twenty-two grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren also survive her.
