Mrs. Emma Stephens Beer was born October 17, 1861, in Van Buren county, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Andrew Beer, September 14, 1880. To this union five children were born, three girls and two boys, the youngest being only one week old at the mother's death. In the winter of 1892-3 she united with the M. E. church in which communion she lived a faithful and worthy member until her death. Her life was pure and gentle. As a wife she was loving and devoted; as a mother she was kind and affectionate and as a neighbor she was highly esteemed. Her cheerful mood, her pleasant ways and her faithfulness to duty won the respect of all, and those who knew her best, loved her most. She hath borne the cross and verily she shall wear the crown. She departed this life February 7, 1902, aged 40 years, 3 months and 20 days. She passed away surrounded by her weeping husband and children.
Her departure is indeed to them a very great and sore affliction, but they sorrow not as those who have no hope. She cannot come to them but they can go to her and be a united family were parting shall be no more.
The funeral services were held at the Center chapel, Sunday, February 9, 1902, by her pastor, Rev. A. C. Boyd, from the text:11 Timothy, 4:6.
A large gathering of relatives, friends and neighbors assembled to take the last fond look and to say farewell to one who will be sadly missed from our midst. Tenderly she was laid away by loving hands.
Besides her husband and children she leaves a father, one sister and two brothers living in Missouri and four sisters living here to mourn her loss.
The family have the sympathy of the entire community and there said affliction.
