DEATH CAUSED BY FALL.
MRS. MARIA PENDER.Following this article is a short account of an accident which happened to Mrs. Pender. On Monday evening her friends thought her condition to be improved, but about 7 o'clock she passed away.
Maria Mellis was born June 3, 1821, in Kentucky and was one of the pioneer women of Iowa. She was married to Richard Pender and for many years they lived on a farm one mile southeast of Keosauqua.
To them were born fourteen children, five of whom are now living in this county, viz., Mrs. Lizzie Aylor, and Colonel of Keosauqua, Mrs. Hannah Delaney of Cantril, Mr. Tom Pender and Mrs. Flora Fritsinger of Bonaparte.
Her husband died several years ago, since which time she has been living with her children.
Funeral services will be held today from the Fritsinger home and the remains will be interred by the side of the grave of her husband in the Fellows cemetery in south Keosauqua.
So ends the life of one of Iowa's pioneer women, after having lived eighty three years, six months, and two days.
