Eli Wing Eason was born in Leyden, Massachusetts, August 20, 1831, and died in Bonaparte, Iowa, March 17, 1896, aged 64 years, 6 months and 27 days.
When quite young he moved to Brattleboro, Vermont, where he grew to manhood. He came to Jasper County, Iowa in the fall of 1856, and to Van Buren County in 1858. He engaged in teaching in Bonaparte in the fall of 1859. Since that time he has made his home in Bonaparte.
He was married to Mary A. Cresap March 22, 1866. To this union were born four children, three sons and one daughter. Two of the sons have died, leaving one son and the daughter with his companion, also one sister and three brothers, to mourn his loss.
The funeral took place from his home March 19, 1896, Rev. G. W. Barber, of Lacey, Iowa, conducting the service.
A profusion of beautiful flowers was contributed at the funeral, among them being the following: wreath, Geo. L. Eason, Des Moines; pillow, Mrs. Henry Jones; bouquets, Mrs. K. L. Meek, Mrs. Robt. Cresap and Miss Molly Wagner.
Mr. Eason was an able scholar, an excellent instructor, a man with good command of language and an entertaining conversationalist.
