Death of Mrs. Marshall.
Mrs. Henry Marshall, who was thrown from the C.B. & K.C. track at Mt. Sterling, July 13th, and fatally injured, died Wednesday of last week and was buried Thursday. She attempted and did rescue her eight year old boy, who was on the track, thus sacrificing her own life for her child. The pilot of the engine struck her on the head fracturing the skull. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. C.W. Evans of the M.E. church. We understand that a post mortem examination was held, but if the facts are as reported, a coroner’s inquest should have been held to inquire who was responsible for this death. It is said that the child was on the tracks on a straight line in plain view of the trainman, and that the speed of the train could have been slackened up and saved the lives of both boy and mother. No effort was made to stop the train, and if the mother had not been killed, the child would have been. It is a proper subject for the next grand jury to consider.
