MR. RAWLEY WALTER
OBITUARY SKETCH.The subject of this sketch was born in Preston County, West Virginia, July 16, 1827, where he grew to manhood. In the spring of 1851 he came to Iowa living around Keosauqua and Vernon until the fall of '52 when he returned to West Virginia.
On January 13, 1853 he was married to Miss Winifred White and in April of that year he and his wife came to Vernon where they remained until 1856 when they moved to their far near town where Mr. Walter lived until the Lord called him home April 2, 1904, at the age of 76 years, ** months, and 17 days.
In early manhood he gave his heart to God and has been an earnest and faithful member of the M. E. church ever since.
Of the five children born to him but two, George and Olive, are living. Jerome died in October of 1903 and the other two in childhood. Besides his immediate family he leaves five grandchildren, one sister, two brothers and a host of friends and neighbors.
The funeral was held at Vernon in the Methodist church April 3 at 2 o'clock, a delegation of his Masonic brothers from Bonaparte where in attendance and had charge of the services at the cemetery, the funeral being conducted by Rev. J. L. Ayrault of Bonaparte in the presence of a large number of sympathizing friends.
