She almost reached the centennial of her birth when she died at her home in Keosauqua on August 25, 1912, lacking 5 days of being 100 years old. Married Thomas Hearne on December 30, 1833 and in 1836 they left MD for IA with 2 small children: Mary, about 2 years old and Martha aged 5 months. Mary died and was buried in a grove on the banks of the OH River. With them came relatives, Eben Hearne and Jeremiah Jackson with their families, reaching Van Buren Co. in February, 1837. Settled on east bank of Des Moines River near Pittsburg. Thomas Hearne died September 4, 1877. They had 11 children, three of whom died in infancy. Three sons were in the Civil War and only one returned, Samuel. Benjamin, aged 23, and Edward, not 19, died of disease in camp. Two daughters, Nannie and Rachel, died in young womanhood and in 1891, Perry, the youngest son died. After Perry's death, Mrs. Hearne lived at home until 1900, then to live with her daughter, Mrs. Wright in Keosauqua. For past 6 years she was almost blind, but her memory was remarkably acute and active in affairs. Two years ago a fall injured a hip and since them was confined to bed and cared for by her daughter and granddaughters. 75 years in Methodist church. F-Purdom Cemetery, Keosauqua.
