George Batchelor - Born in Boston, MA on April 18, 1820. At age 18 months moved with parents to Scotland where he remained until 13 years of age when apprenticed to a sailor, remaining on ocean 18 years. Married Catharine Ramsey April 18, 1841 at Newcastle, England. In 1844 moved to New York City. Remained 7 years, then to Cincinnati, OH for 10 months, then to Van Buren Co. in 1852 near Vernon. Eight children, 3 boys and 5 girls, five of whom survive: Mrs. Mary Ann Hornbaker; Mrs. Agnes Simmons and James W. Batchelor. Mrs. Emma Reith; and Mrs. Catharine Wilson of Oregon unable to come. The other three, John Batchelor, Mrs. Margaret Simmons have passed away. Enlisted Co I, 19th IA Inf. on August 14, 1862 on account of disability discharged on February 23, 1863. First wife died January 5, 1891. Married again on July 20, 1895 to Mrs. Jane Reith who still lives. Died February 28, 1907. F-Thompson Cemetery, Bonaparte.
