John W. Atkins, son of Kendall B. and Naomi M. Atkins was born, near Milton Iowa, May 22, 1857, and passed away at his home in Milton, Iowa, May 21, 1926, lacking but one day of being sixty nine years of age.
He was united in marriage, on March 2, 1884 to Clara B. Baird. To them were born two children, Fern Ralph and Charles Paul. Charles Paul passed away when near two years of age.
He was converted and united with the Methodist Episcopal Church at Zion, under the pastorate of Rev. Wright. Later his membership was tranferred to Grace Methodist Church in Milton, Iowa, of which he was a member at the time of his death.
The deceased has lived all his life, in and near-by Milton and is well known by a large circle of friends. He was a hard working, industrious man, often times working beyond his strength. He kept going, in spite of physical infirmity, until a few weeks ago since when he was a great sufferer.
It was impossible to relieve him of the malady and on Friday morning, the body gave up the battle.
He leaves his wife, Clara Atkins, one son Fern, who resides on a farm near Milton, Iowa; five brothers and one sister and many other relatives and friends
The funeral was held from the Christian Church, Saturday afternoon, May 22, 1926, conducted by Rev. H.F. Gilbert. Interment in the Milton Cemetery. I am not related and am posting this obituary for those who might find this person in their family history.
