Jacob S. Simmons
Jacob Seward Simmons, son of Jacob and Frances Simmons, was born in Miami county, Ohio, November 19, 1850, and passed away at his home, near Bonaparte, Iowa, October 19, 1922, age 71 years and 11 months.
At the age of seven years, he with his parents, brothers and sisters came to this state and has grown to manhood and spent the remainder of his life here.
He was united in marriage to Miss Maggie Batchelor of Vernon, March 21, 1872. To this union were born three children, one son and two daughters. The loving ties of home were broken June 5, 1890, when the loving wife and mother was called from this life to await the reuniting of the little circle.
Left with his three small children he left his country home, moving to Farmington, Iowa, where sorrow again entered their home, when their son Goerge, a lad of 18 (*unsure of number)years, died November 3, 1892.
Although deeply grieved, he strived for the comfort of the two little daughters, Jessie and Emma.
On October 15, 1899, he was united in marriage to Mrs. Katherine Bethenod of Farmington, Iowa. To this union was born one son, Floyd J., who still remains at home. No words can express his suffering since early in March of this year, and through these days his hope was always that no one would suffer as he.
He leaves to mourn their loss, the wife and son, at home, the two daughters, Mrs. Jessie Hornbaker and Mrs. Emma Wagner, both of Bonaparte: one stepdaughter, Mrs. Reva Crane of Wichita, Kas.; one brother, Thomas, of Vernon Prairie; six grandchildren, besides a host of relatives and friends.

Farewell, dear father, sweet thy rest
Weary with years and worn until pain
Farewell 'till in some happy place
We shall behold thy face again.
Tis ours to miss thee all our years
And tender memories of thee keep
Thine in the Lord to rest, for so
He giveth his beloved sleep.
