Harriett Corneelia Hoskin
Harriett Corneelia Hoskin, daughter of John and Mary Craig Holmes was born in Van Buren county February 11, 1867, and departed this life at Bloomfield on April 30, 1959 at the age of 92 years, 2 months and 19 days.
She was united in marriage September 9, 1884 to Neri B. Hoskin and for 49 years they resided upon the same farm where they established their home near Cantril, Iowa. After the death of her husband on October 13, 1933, she soon took up her residence in Bloomfield where she spent the remainder of her life.
To this union was born eleven children. Preceding her in death were her husband, three sons, Earl, Carl, and Stanley and one daughter, Orpha. Left to mourn her departure are the following: Mrs O.L. Rector (Stella), Mrs. C.C. Day (Affa), Neri Hoskin, Garlan Hoskin, Mrs. George Wentzel (Mary), Mrs. Floyd Downing (Flora) and Leslie Hoskin, also 19 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
She was a life time member of the Methodist church and actively participated in its work so long as her health permitted.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Carl Wilson at the Wagler Funeral Home, Saturday May 2. Interment in the Hoskin cemetery near Cantril.
Pallbearers were grandsons of the deceased; Evert Hoskin, Neal Hoskin, Carmi Neal Spicer, Harold Alva Downing, Quentin Hoskin and Harold Dean Spicer.I don't have the newspaper name, but believe it was the one from Cantril or Keosaqua. This is taken from an actual newspaper obituary that has been in family scrapbooks since it appeared in the newspaper. I can email you a copy of it if you would like it.
