MRS. E. E. STURDIVANT
--------------------
Elizabeth E. Endersby was born at Campton, Bedfordshire, England, December 2, 1836, and finished her earthly life July 30, 1899, at the age of 62 years, 7 months and 28 days.In 1841 she came with her parents to this country; first to Hillsboro, then to a farm in Harrisburg Township, this county. This was her home until her marriage with George W. Sturdivant, which occurred December 12, 1856. April 7, 1857, Mr. and Mrs. Sturdivant began a journey across the plains, going with an ox train, crossing the Missouri river May 17th and arriving at California Aug. 23, having been more than five months on the way. They settled near Yreka, in that state. There two children were born to them. They return [sic] to this vicinity in 1860 and made their final home in Bonaparte in 1862. Here Mr. Sturdivant died Jan. 20, 1874.
Seven children were born to them of whom to [sic] sons, Albert and Frank survive the death of their beloved mother.
Mrs. Sturdivant was christened in the Church of England. In early life she united with the Methodist Episcopal church and still later with the Presbyterian church, of Bonaparte, of which she was one of the earliest and most devoted members.
She manifested in a meek and quiet way, the sweet graces of Christian womanhood. Her influence for good is still with us and its value is beyond that of all earthly treasure. Services were held in the Presbyterian church, Tuesday, Aug. 1st by her pastor, Rev. W. H. Scofield, and were attended by a large concourse of relatives and friends. Her remains were deposited in the White Cemetery near those of many of her loved ones.
