DEATH OF M. B. MALTBIE
----------------------
Milo B. Maltbie, who came to South Keosauqua in 1867, making his length of residence here 40 years, died at 1 o'clock a. m. Thursday, Aug. 15, 1907, aged 71 years, 2 months and 18 days, after a lingering illness with enlargement of the heart. He was a good citizen, a faithful member of the church and the Odd Fellows and G.A.R. orders. His long and active residence at Keosauqua, Iowa, identified him strongly with the townspeople and he will be greatly missed. The deceased was born at Mainville, Warren county, Ohio, May 27, 1836. When 16 years of age he united with the Christian church and remained a member thereof until 1903 when he transferred his membership to the M. E. church. In 1858 he was married to Martha E. Cleland in Ohio. To this union three children were born, one dying in infancy. The other two, John A. Maltbie, merchant at Keosauqua, and Mrs. Emma Dodson of Washington, Iowa, survive. The wife and mother died July 22, 1864. On July 28, 1861, he enlisted in Co. C, 54th Ohio Infantry and was discharged Oct. 11, 1861. On September 15, 1864, about two months after the death of his first wife, he enlisted in the 175th Ohio Infantry and served until after the close of the war, being discharged July 3, 1865. He was united in marriage with Ruth M. Fisher, Dec. 13, 1865, who survives. No children were born to this union. Funeral services were held at the residence at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon August 16, many people attending. The sermon was by Rev. P. H. Hawk of the M. E. church. The burial was under the auspices of the Odd Fellows lodge of which he became a member Nov. 13, 18[can't read]. The interment was in the Fellows cemetery.
