Mary Guthrie 87, was found dead in her home in Milton about 4:30 p.m. Sunday. Mayor Charles Glotfelty and K.L. Brown entered the home after neighbors reported something was wrong and were unable to rouse Miss Guthrie. Coroner Harold Catcott was called and death was found due to a cardiac heart block. Miss Guthrie had been in poor health for several months, and only recently returned from a check-up at an Iowa City hospital.
Mary E. Guthrie, daughter of William and Sarah L. Guthrie was born on a farm north of Milton, August 22, 1863, where she resided until 1890, when she moved to Milton. Oldest of 12 children, she helped with the care of her sisters and brothers until they were married and with her parents until their death.
She was a member of the Milton Methodist Church.
Surviving are three sisters: Mrs. Martha McClure, Bloomfield; Mrs. Laura McClurg, Tulsa Oklahoma; and Mrs. Stella Elder of Kirksville Missouri.
Preceding her in death were her parents, five sisters and three brothers.
Funeral services were held at 3:30 Wednesday afternoon with Rev. Harold Harryman in charge, and burial was in the old cemetery north of Milton.
I am not related, and am copying this obituary for those who might find this person in their family history.
