MRS. MARGARET FINDLAY
Miss Margaret Whitfield of of [sic] Douds-Leando was born in County Ayr, Scotland, April 23, 1824, and came with her parents to America in 1837. Settled in Maryland; was married to Alexander Findlay at Mt. Savage, Md., April 22, 1841; moved to Jefferson county, Iowa, in 1855, and then into Van Buren county, where she spent the remainder of her life, dying Aug. 18, 1904, aged 80 years, 3 mo. and 25 days. She is survived by nine children: Hugh, Alexander, Margaret Stong, Agnes Carson and Ellen Neilson who live near Douds. Mrs. Winfield Lefever, of Goldendale, Washington; Mrs. Wm. Minear, Keokuk county, Iowa; Geo. W. of Keosauqua and Mrs. P. M. Cahill of Farmington. She joined the M.E. church with her husband in 1857, and was a consistant member during life. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother and a kind neighbor loved and respected by all. She was not only a church member but lived a christsan [sic] life. She leaves a large circle of relatives and friends to mourn for her. She knew the end was near, but complained not and was ready and resigned which was a great comfort to her friends. She was buried August 19, beside her husband, Alexander Findlay, in the Zion Lutheran cemetery, Rev. Seeds conducting funeral services.
