OBITUARIES

MARGARET ELLEN BRADY

Mrs. Margaret Ellen Brady, wife of Alex. Brady, and daughter of Silas and Anna Brown, was born in Marion county Iowa, March 4, 1845, and died at her home in Keosauqua at 1:40 p.m. Tuesday, Jany. 8, 1907, aged 61 years, 10 months and 4 days. She was married to Alexander Brady, at Iowaville, Van Buren Co. Iowa, Feb. 10, 1861, and moved at once to Keosauqua, which place has ever since been her home except a year's stay in Farmington. She was the mother of 11 children, four sons and seven daughters, three of the sons dying in infancy, while Ellsworth grew to a young man to become the pride of his mother, when he too was taken. The death of this son was a severe blow to her and she never ceased to mourn for him and she always loved to talk of him. The seven daughters all grew to womanhood and all were present to see her laid away in her last earthly abode, the grave. The daughters are Mrs. (Laura) W. J. Strickling and Mrs. (Flora) T. J. Moll of Keokuk; Mrs. Mary Gorman, Mrs. (Blanch) L. E. Whitney and Misses Jonanna [sic], Hallie and Hellen [sic], all of Keosauqua. Funeral services were held at the residence Wednesday Jany. 9, at 2 o'clock p.m. and were in charge of Rev. C. E. Perkins, assisted by Rev. P. H. Hawk. The pall bearers were James Fickey, J. W. Rowley, Wm. Hartson, L. K. Savage, J. N. Martin and M. Whitney, the burial being in the beautiful Purdom cemetery by the side of her loved son Ellsworth. For fully 45 years Mrs. Brady was a resident of Keosauqua and to say that she was a good woman, a dutiful wife, a loving mother and a generous wife, a loving mother and a generous neighbor, is but to repeat what is a matter of knowledge of all her acquaintances. She lived (a useful) life and died blessed by her husband and children. She suffered for 9 months but she suffered patiently and when the end came she died peacefully--went to sleep with a smile on her face, which smile remained even when the last look was taken of her countenance before the casket was closed forever.
