DANIEL RENEKER, 99, DIED ON BIRTHDAY
Was Oldest Resident of Van Buren County, Having Lived Here 75 Years
Mr. Daniel Reneker, oldest living resident of Van Buren county, and one of the county's earliest settlers, died suddenly about noon on Thursday, Feb 24-his 99th birthday-at his home in Lick Creek township, near Kilbourne.
The announcement of Mr. Reneker's death will be received with sadness, not only the part of his many friends, but by people in general. There was a universal desire on the part of all who had heard of this remarkable old man that his life might be spared until he reached the century mark. Death came to him suddenly, his death following a sudden sinking and fit of strangling.
Mr. Reneker was a native of Ohio. More than 75 years ago he brought his bride, herself 97 years of age, to this county to make a home out of the wilderness. Mr. Reneker had previously been out here and entered as a homestead the 160 acres of land upon which he and his faithful wife spent more than 75 years of married life, and on which he died.
Besides his wife, he is survived by four sons, Jacob, Joshua, and Dallas Reneker, all of Lick Creek township, and Dr. George W. Reneker of Falls City, Neb.
Daniel Reneker was a splendid man, and his long life of right thinking and upright living have left an immeasurable impress for good upon the world.
