Joe Farrell, formerly a prominent businessman in Birmingham, died in his room at Ottumwa following a brief illness. His home was in Birmingham, but he had been employed as plumber at the Naval Air Station near Ottumwa in the public works department.

Joe, a son of John W. and Mary Farrell, was born in Birmingham May 10, 1881, and died in Ottumwa June 18, 1946, at the age of 65 years, 1 month and 8 days.

He was united in marriage with Rosetta Walmer of Jefferson county, and to them were born two sons, Paul and Robert (Charles) who with their mother survive him. Also surviving are two brothers, John of Sterling, Ill., and Harvey of Council Bluffs, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Mrs. Anna Rankin and Mrs. Kate Kirkpatrick, and by three brothers, Frank, Fred and Horatio.

He was in the farm implement business in Birmingham for years, and was a fine mechanic of pleasant disposition, and a conscientious workman. He was a member of the Masonic lodge in Fairfield.

Funeral services were held Thursday, June 20, at the Catcott funeral home, conducted by Rev. H.C. Irvine, with burial in Maple Hill cemetery.
