OBITUARY

Rachel Jane (Stout) Barker was born February 8, 1842, in Park county Indiana, and died December 22, 1925, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Albert Short near Cantril, Iowa, at the age of 83 years 10 months and 14 days.

She was the youngest daughter of Charles and Sarah Stout. She came with her parents to Iowa in 1845 and settled near Salem, Iowa. In the spring of 1851 they moved to near Fremont, Mahaska county, Iowa.

On November 29, 1860, she was united in marriage to J. N. Barker. To this union were born 8 [sic] children, three sons and four daughters. She was preceded in death by her husband who died Nov. 13, 1919, and four children: Elmer who died in infancy, Stella Moore who died May 16, 1920, Cora Johnston who died Dec. 27, 1916, and Nelsie, twin brother to Mrs. Short at the age of 12 years.

She is survived by three daughters Mrs. Josie Griffith of Clebom, Texas, Mrs. Ida Buckner of St. Petersburg, Florida, Mrs. Nellie Short, near Cantril, and one son F. W. Barker, of Noxon, Montana, also one brother, Lee Stout, of Fremont, Iowa; 26 grand children and 17 great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends who mourn her departure.
