Suicide at Keosauqua.
Mrs. Curtis Cocherell committed suicide Saturday at her home in Keosauqua by taking strychnine [sic]. Mrs. Cocherell was in her usual health this morning and went down town about the middle of the morning when she purchased the strychnine. On her return home she stopped and talked with her husband who was employed at the pickle factory, and seemed in her usual spirits. She had not been home very long when her husband heard her screams and rushed home. He found her in convulsions on the floor. Dr. Sherman and Dr. Craig were at once called and everything was done to counteract the effect of the poison but without avail, and she died about half past two this afternoon. No reason is known why she should have taken her life and the community is shocked by the affair.
Mrs. Cocherell was the daughter of Mr. William Black and has always made her home in Keosauqua, being born and raised here. She was married a little over a year ago to Curtis Cocherell and so far as any of their friends know their married life had always been happy.
