Robert Cresswell, many years a merchant at Bentonsport, later a farmer a few miles south of the village of Vernon, this county, died last Sunday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Briggs, in Ottumwa, aged 79. He was a gentleman held in high esteem by his acquaintances. He came to Van Buren county in 1841 and lived here until 1884 when he moved to Ottumwa where he afterwards made his home. He was buried at Ottumwa last Friday. (Hand written date: March 17, 1907)
