Mrs. Mary S. Wood, daughter of James and Anna Brown was born in Westmorland county, Pennsylvania, on the 31st day of August, 1810, and died at Albia, Iowa, December 13, 1900, aged 90 years, 3 months and 13 days. She united with the Presbyterian church at the age of 17, having been converted at the Lord’s table in the breaking of bread under the pastoral care of the Rev. Andrew O. Patterson. She moved to Iowa, Van Buren county, December 7, 1841 where she made a home with her brother James A. Brown, who had preceded her to Iowa, coming in April, 1840. She was married to Clement Wood, September 13, 1843, who passed to the better world September 13, 1893. Mrs. Wood was one of the charter members of the Presbyterian church at Bentonsport, Iowa, where she remained a zealous and consistent member until the day of her death. Having loved and served her Savior for over 73 years, she died without a doubt or a fear and in the triumphs of a living faith saying, “I shall soon be with my mother, brother, and husband, but best of all my Savior.” She leaves to mourn her death one daughter, three grandsons and one great grand-daughter. She was laid to rest in the Bentonsport cemetery beside her husband by loving friends.
