KEOSAUQUA-Florest H. Buerkle, 84, of Keosauqua died at 9 A.M. May 18, 1990, at Van Buren County Memorial Hospital in Keosauqua.
She was born Jan. 29, 1906, in Missouri to Thomas Jefferson and Jessis Coppel Houston. She married Howard Heald on June 3, 1925, in Scotland County, Mo. He died in 1953. She married Howard Buerkle in Park Forest, Ill. He died in 1960.
She was reared by her grandparents, Spar Simeon and Frances Houston in Scotland County, Mo., where she graduated from Memphis High School in 1923 with a teacher training certificate. She taught in a one-room school in Memphis, Mo. She graduated from beauty school in 1926 and was a licensed beautician, operating beauty shops in Chicago and Columbus, Ohio. She retired to Mountain Home, Ark., and in 1976 moved to Keosauqua.
She is survived by a daughter, Sharon Heald of Chicago; two brothers, Raymond Houston of Viroqua, Wis., and Charles Houston of Centralia, Ill.; and two sisters, Mirium Johnson of Columbus, Ohio and Madeline Redburn of Arizona.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Laverne Houston.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, the Rev. Bob Patterson officiating. Burial will be in Heald Cemetery south of Mount Sterling.
Visitation is open beginning at noon today at the funeral home..
Memorials may be left at the funeral home.
