Samuel Foster Topping, 86, died Nov. 14 in Jefferson county hospital, Fairfield. A native of the Winchester vicinity, Topping was a life resident of Union township, Van Buren county. He was born Dec. 18, 1867, the son of John W. and Margaret Topping, and was the last surviving member of a family of six brothers and three sisters.
On April 2, 1896, Topping was married to Rosena Elizabeth Sherod, who died in 1950. He was a member of the Presbyterian church.
Surviving are two sons and two daughters: Clem Topping, Stockport, and John and Mildred Topping and Mrs. Gertrude Dille, all of Birmingham; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A daughter, Ella Marie, died at the age of three years, and another daughter, Bessie, died in infancy.
Services were held at the Birmingham Presbyterian church at 2:30 p. m. Tuesday, the Rev. Howard C. Irvine officiating. Burial was in the Winchester cemetery.
