DROWNED AT BONAPARTE
One of the Most Manly and Promising Lads Of Bonaparte Goes Down to Death
Wednedsay forenoon of last week Master Kern Sturdivant aged 11 years and some other boys were skating on Honey creek at Bonaparte, and when at the railroad bridge the ice gave way and Kern went down in about six feet of water. He tried hard to get out on the firm ice, but was not able to do so, and was drowned. In a few minutes the body was recovered, near the place where he went down, and Drs. Blackmar and Bogle made every effort to resuscitate him, but it was to no avail.
Kern was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Sturdivant, who moved back to Bonaparte from the west about a month ago. The father was in Nebraska at the time of the accident, and returned Saturday. He was their only son, and an exceptionally intelligent, noble, promising boy. His untimely death and the great bereavement of the parents cast a sadness over the entire community.
The funeral was held Sunday.
