Death of William Sprankle.
After a painful illness of several months, W. U. Sprankle died of cancer of the stomach, at his home in Bonaparte, on Monday evening, June 13, 1898, aged 69 years, 3 months and 2 days.
Mr. Sprankle was born in Hollidaysburg, Blair County, Pennsylvania, March 11, 1829. He was married to Nancy J. Seabrooks, at Fairfield, Pennsylvania, March 14, 1852. Two children were born to this union. In 1855 the family moved to Mendon, Illinois, where they lived until the death of his companion July 8, 1866. Deceased was again married on June 9, 1867, to Sarah J. Rawlings, and they came to Bonaparte in 1869. To them were born two children, a son and a daughter. The mother died at Quincy, Illinois February 14, 1898. The surviving children are Emma Beck, wife of John Q. Beck, and Minnie and George Sprankle. He also leaves two sisters and one brother.
The funeral occurred from his late home Wednesday afternoon, June 15, 1898, Rev. G. W. Barber, of Farmington, conducting the services, after which the burial service was conducted by the Masonic fraternity, of which deceased was a member.
The pall-bearers were Phil Eich, C. S. Percival, P. W. Oberg, Bert Smith, C. E. Sandford and Henry Beard.
