The Register's Iowa News ServiceDrunken driving guilty plea follows fatal accident
BONAPARTE, IA. - A Bonaparte man has pleaded guilty to a drunken driving charge related to a February accident in which one man was killed and another was injured seriously.
Kevin Ray Denly has been charge by Assistant Attorney General Mike Wallace with involuntary manslaughter in the death of Thomas Robert Mitchell, 29, of Bonaparte. Wallace said he'll drop that charge if the court accepts the drunken driving plea.
Denly, Mitchell and William Peterso, 29, also of Bonaparte, had been drinking at a party Feb. 18, Wallace said. When Mitchell and Peterson disappeared, Denly went looking for them in his pickup truck.
He said that when he reached the crest of a hill, lights from a car parked on the road blinded him. His car struck Mitchell and Peterson, who were crouched on the roadway.
