FORT MADISON - The funeral service for one of two Fort Madison men killed in a one-vehicle accident Thursday will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua.
Keosauqua native Richard C. Sherod, 34, was killed when the pickup he was driving crashed about 6 p.m. Thursday on Highway 2 four miles west of Donnellson. Also killed was a passenger, 25-year old Robert Andrews of Fort Madison.
Sherod was born March 6, 1952, the son of Jack and Betty Lawson Sherod. He grew up in Mount Sterling and attended high school in Memphis, Mo. He was a construction worker.
Surviving are two sons, Joshua, 10, and Wayland, 8, both of Farmington; his mother and stepfather, Betty and Ivan Mitchell of Bonaparte; and two sisters, Sheila Hoaglin of Hillsboro and Mary Plemmons of Battletown, Ky.
The Rev. Ed Newman will officiate at the service. Memorials to an education fund for Sherod's sons may be left at the funeral home. Interment arrangements are pending.
According to the Iowa Highway Patrol, Sherod's westbound 1976 International pickup struck an intersection embankment, became airborne, flipped twice and came to rest in the north ditch. The truck wasn't discovered by a passerby until 7 a.m. Friday.
Another passenger, Andy Decker, 25, Keokuk, was pinned in the wreckage and extricated Friday morning by the Donnellson Fire Department, according to the patrol.
Decker is listed in satisfactory condition at Fort Madison Community Hospital. None of the three occupants of the truck was wearing a seat belt, the patrol said.

Of The DemocratLee County recorded its first traffic fatalities of 1987 when an accident four miles west of Donnellson on Iowa Highway 2 claimed the lives of two Fort Madison men and injured a Keokuk man.
Robert Glen Andrews, 25, 4635 Ave. J, and Richard Craig Sherod, 34, 4635 Ave. j, died in the crash, according to the Lee County Sheriff's Department.
Chief Deputy Dave Ireland said the vehicle, an International Scout pickup, was westbound on Iowa Highway 2 four miles west of Donnellson when it entered a curve and went into the north ditch, striking a gravel road intersection, becoming airborne and flipping 1 1/2 times, coming to rest on its top.
Sherod and Andrews were both pronounced dead at the scene by Lee County Medical Examiner Dr. Eugenio Torres. Sherod and Decker were freed from the vehicle by the Donnellson Fire Department Rescue Squad. Andrews was found under the vehicle.
The Lee County Ambulance Service reported that it received the accident call shortly before 8 a.m. today, but Ireland said the accident could have occurred as early as last evening and went undetected until morning.
The Lee County Sheriff's Department and the Iowa Highway Patrol are continuing the investigation.
Lee County recorded a total of 10 accident fatalities during 1986 and eight during 1985.

Two Ft. Madison men were killed in a single-vehicle accident four miles west of Donnellson on highway 2.
The accident was reported to authorities shortly after 8 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 2, but officials said it could have occurred as early as Thursday evening and gone undetected until Friday morning.
Richard Craig Sherod, 34, and Robert Glen Andrews, 25, both of Ft. Madison, died in the crash, according to reports of the Iowa State Patrol.
Andrew Leroy Decker, 24, of Keokuk sustained multiple injuries and was taken by ambulance to Ft. Madison Community Hospital.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, the 1976 International, driven by Sherod, was westbound on highway 2. It left the roadway and struck an intersection embankment, went airborn and flipped end over end twice and came to rest on its top in the north ditch.
Both Sherod and Decker were pinned in the vehicle and were extracted by the Donnellson Fire Department.
The accident was investigated by the Iowa State Patrol and the Lee County Sheriff's Department.
