Dies following pickup crash
Randy Ash, 18, of rural Douds died at 7:30 p.m. Monday in University Hospitals, Iowa City as the result of injuries sustained earlier the same day in a one-vehicle accident near Douds.
Ash was northbound on V64, .7 mile south of the Jefferson County line about 2:25 p.m. when he lost control of the pickup he was driving. He was thrown from the truck as it rolled off the blacktop road.
The wreck occurred within a half-mile of his home where he was believed to be going at the time of the accident.
Ash was taken by Van Buren County ambulance to Jefferson County Hospital, Fairfield, for emergency treatment before he was transferred to Iowa City by helicopter.
The 1978 pickup owned by his father, Melvin Ash, was demolished. The accident was investigated by the Iowa State Patrol.
