Hughes-Cresap Marriage 1913

Hughes-Cresap.

Mr. Morton James Hughes, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Hughes of Storm Lake, Iowa, and Miss Katharine Hall Cresap, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. R. N. Cresap of Bonaparte, Iowa, were married at one o'clock Saturday afternoon, October 4, 1913, Rev. Jas. Clark officiating.

There were forty-eight guests assembled when A. G. Roberts sang "All For You," and S. R. Meek played the wedding march.

Mr. Swearingen, a college friend of Miss Cresap, and Mr. Harold Page were ushers.

The bride's colors were yellow and white, the color scheme being carried out in flowers, decorations, and refreshments. The bride's gown was cream brocade charmeuse with trimmings of pearl passementrie and duchess lace. The veil was draped from a dutch cap of duchess lace and orange blossoms, and the bride carried a shower bouquet of lillies of the valley and bride's roses.

Miss Alice Hughes, a sister of the groom, acted as bridesmaid and was gowned in yellow mescaline? veiled with shadow lace. She carried yellow and white chrysanthemums.

The little maid of honor, Mary Elizabeth Cresap, wore a white frock with yellow garniture and carried a basket of yellow and white flowers.

Mr. Chester Sheley of Lake View, served Mr. Hughes as best man.

After the double ring ceremony by the Rev. Jas. Clark and congratulations were extended to the young couple, the bridal party were seated at a round table, the bridal cake with yellow trimmings in the center and with place cards and candy baskets in prevailing color.

They left on the evening train for an eastern trip and will be at home at Storm Lake, Iowa, where Mr. Hughes is in the furniture business.

Following were the house guests. Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Hughes and Miss Alice Hughes of Storm Lake, Mr. Chester Sheley of Lake View, Mr. DeForest Swearingen of Sac City, Mrs. E. H. Borland, Mrs. K. B. Fullerton, Miss Borland, and honorable W. F. Borland of Kansas City, Mo., Mr. and Mrs. William Friend and Mr. and Mrs. Omer Cresap of Eldon, Mrs. Chas. Graham, Mr. Wallace B. Graham and Mr. Frank Racine of Ottumwa, Mrs. Walter Reading of Churdan, Iowa.

The following out-of-town guests also attended: – – Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Hissem of Douds–Leando, Mr. and Mrs. E. Ross Baker of Keokuk, Rev. and Mrs. James Clark of Donnellson, Miss Lizzie Meredith and Miss Stella Sloan of Keosauqua.

The bride, elder daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Cresap, is a graduate of the Bonaparte high school and of Coe college, has taught in the high schools at Fonda, Iowa; has had considerable vocal culture, and is an unusually fine vocalist and an accomplished young lady. Her many friends extend best wishes.
