Mrs. Iva Barker Attends Big Show
Keosauqua Gold Star Mother Guest at Hollywood Victory Caravan Production.
Mrs. Iva Barker of Keosauqua was a guest at the Hollywood Victory Caravan army-navy relief show in Des Moines on Mother's day. She had been selected by the American Legion to represent Van Buren county war mothers at the show.
Mrs. Barker is a Gold Star Mother. Her son, Loren Joe Barker, was killed in naval action during the Pearl Harbor attack on December 7.
Tickets to the show of Hollywood stars in Des Moines at $16 each were bought for one war mother from each of the 99 Iowa counties by WHO Golden Gloves from accumulated profits. All preceeds from the show are turned over to the army and navy relief agencies.
In the cast at the show were Bob Hope, Cary Grant, Claudette Colbert, Joan Blondell, Laurel and Hard, Frank McHugh, Eleanor Powell, Charles Boyer and many other stars.
