School Boy Hit by Car

Donald Horn, 7, Suffers Broken Leg, Mouth Injuries in Accident at Utica Monday, Noon.

Donald Horn, 7-year-old boy, suffered a broken leg and cuts about the mouth when struck by a car a short distance east of Utica on Highway No. 16 at noon Monday.

Robert Hamlin of Bonaparte, driver of the car, is said to have turned his car into the ditch in an effort to avoid striking the lad, who was hit by the fender and headlamp.

The boy is said to have been with a group of schoolmates walking eastward on the north side of the highway. Mr. Hamlin, driving eastward behind the group, said he did not realize there was any danger until the boy darted into the path of his car.

Dr. E.J. Winslow was called from Stockport to examine the lad, who was taken to the Jefferson county hospital at Fairfield by Sheriff Elwood Vance, who had been called to the scene from Keosauqua. The boy is the son of August Horn of Stockport Route 1.
