A TRIBUTE

Birdie Hartrick is gone. Never again will we see her bright presence among us, walking along the streets, attending to business, or carrying beautiful bouquets to the sick and the well. She had a happy smile and a pleasant word for everyone.

She was a lover of flowers, and her flowers were like herself --- bright, vivid and soulful. Though not associated with her in anyway, yet many a bouquet has she brought me. Roses as red as the red of the sun-set sky and gorgeous peonies of crimson hue. Her flowers seemed just like her. When I entered homes where there was illness and admired a frash(sic) bouquet some one said “Birdie Hartrick brought that.”

And how devoted she was to her aged mother who is herself an unusual woman at 94.

Birdie Hartrick was a blessing in Farmington. May she gather blossoms amid the fields of asphodels.
